So, apparently Kieran Brown will be representing Manchester City in eSports tournaments and fan events around the world playing the FIFA soccer video game.

The lines between physical sports leagues and video game tournaments continue to blur.

 

High-profile eSports tournaments can attract multiple millions of dollars in prize money, but the biggest payers are games that don’t replicate real-life sports, such as Defence of the Ancients (DOTA) and League of Legends.

Manchester City has not disclosed how much it will pay its new recruit.

Its eSports play appears to be a marketing move more than anything, with a Manchester City marketing representative, Diego Gigliani, saying it would give the club “a bigger presence at gaming tournaments”.
