Font problems with Office for Mac 2016 – Times … | Apple Support Communities

Wow! I’ve been totally frustrated by the fact of being forced to upgrade to Office for Mac 2016 and finding it impossible to revert back to the older version that actually worked most of the time. The biggest issue I had was that Times New Roman and Arial fonts seemed to have totally disappeared even though the formatting tab insisted that the text showing was in Times New Roman/Arial when it patently wasn’t. I found other posts confirming that this was a problem without an obvious solution and then someone solved it with a simple fix.

Apple has an app called Font Book (which, sure enough, showed up in my Applications folder, even though I’ve never had any reason to use it in the past). For some weird reason, installing Microsoft Office 2016 turns off Times New Roman, Arial and a few other font families – just open Font Book, find the fonts on their list, and switch them on. Problem solved, thanks to “Akacic” in the Apple Support Communities discussion forum!
